Cool Art, Warm Walls

framed print, art, home decorI am always moving my wall art around trying to find the perfect spot for it, which means I’m always patching nail holes.  Oh, who am I kidding?  I let the pictures cover the holes, and if there are exposed nail holes, they stay that way until one day when I get the itch to patch them.  I guess this is a good problem to have considering there were years that I had nothing on my walls.  I could’ve had decorated walls if I were willing to hang family photos and my child’s sweet drawings, but at the time, I allowed myself to be influenced by what others had and what I saw in magazines.   Not anymore.  My definition of art has expanded, and I have settled into an eclectic style of  family photos, my daughter’s art projects and some store bought prints sprinkled in the mix.

You’ve seen my PB knock-off gallery wall

and my “birds of a feather” wall display.  My daughter created the picture of the two birds on the right when she studied Mexican Folk Art in 3rd grade.  I love it in this collection.

Here are a couple more pieces of her art that grace my home.

This Western art was selected by my daughter’s art teacher to be in the Houston Rodeo Art Show last school year.  My budding artist won 2nd place!

This drawing was based on Van Gogh.  As soon as it came home, I knew I was going to frame it.  While it is an “original”, I’m not the only mom who framed this project.  That’s okay.  It was an impressive project.  How can I blame those other moms for wanting it prominently displayed?  kids art, custom framed art, home decor

These next two pieces have a lot of sentimental value.

This mirror was attached to my parent’s dresser that has been repurposed as a sideboard in my breakfast room.  You can see it here.  (The chalkboard in the reflection is a little sneak peek of an upcoming post.)

My grandmother gave me this picture when I was  young  because the girl in the picture reminded her of me.  She now hangs to the right of the mirror in the dining room.

Here are a couple of my favorite store bought pieces.

I love this picture.  I got it very inexpensively at Garden Ridge several years ago.  I recently hung her in the dining room (to the left of the mirror), and I really like how she brings out the colors of the curtain panels.

I had to have this clock when I saw it.  There’s just something sooo charming about bicycles.  I also liked that there are three bikes to represent our little family of three.  (I still need to set the clock back an hour.)  wall clock, bicycle art, home decor

Sometimes, I just sit, and look around at all of my pretty pictures.  What do you have hanging on your walls?

Sitting in my house, surrounded with memories and momentos, brings me such joy.  That’s the ‘lesson’ today.   If you remember one thing from this post, let it be this:   As you go about decorating the house, make it your home.

Until next time,

Sharon

  3. Wow, where do I start. Your daughter is a great budding artist. I too didn’t hang art for years and now my house I live in has very little wall space to hang art. I do have one very large picture my daughter did in college and a couple I did, but that is about it. Love what you have done, looks great!

  4. Thank you for your sweet comment, Vikki. It means a lot to me!!
