How many sheet sets and towels per household should you have?

It was 5:30 this morning, I had just laid back down after a restroom break and was trying to fall back to sleep.  But I was distracted by this onion-y smell.  Then I realized, “that’s my sheets!”  :(

I started trying to think back and remember the last time I washed our sheets. I didn’t think it had been all that long ago…but I guess considering the fits of night sweats I’ve had this week, it should have come as no surprise that my sheets smell like onion.

Am I grossin’ y’all out?  Sorry, I don’t mean to.

So, then I started to wonder if you all know how many sheet sets the infamous “they” recommend you have on hand.  I’ll give you a hint: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?  oooonnne, twooooo, threeeee licks.  :)

That’s one for the bed, another for the linen closet, and one more in the laundry.

One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready. now, go, go, go!  I love music, and EV.er.e.thang reminds me of a song.

Back to business…this rule of thumb also applies to towels.

Each person in your household should have three towel sets.  That’s a lot of towels…but they are the easiest to fold and put away, at least in my house.

I actually have ‘not enough sheet sets’ and ‘too many towels.’  How many sheet and towel sets do you have?   Had you heard that rule of thumb before?

I’m off to wash my sheets.

Until next time,

Sharon

  1. Well, I have plenty of sheet sets. It must about 12 sets. Towels even more. I change them both every week with new clear ones.
    Have a nice weekend!

  2. Olga, you are a better person than me. Thanks for commenting and enjoy the weekend!

  3. Well….I have 6 sets of sheets, but only 2 sets that I actually think are 100% comfortable and fit the mattress perfectly without slipping off. But…I wash my sheets every Monday and just put the same set back on the bed as soon as I pull them out of the dryer. Towels….we generally use a towel for two showers then into the hamper with them. Nothing my husband hates more than having to make up a bed….so that’s my JOB! Not a bad one though! Have a great weekend!

  4. I need more sheet sets. I have plenty of towels though. I had never heard that rule before. Next time I’m in town, I’m getting sheets! Thanks for the tip.

  5. Hey there, Judy! Great to hear from you. Sounds like I’ve been slacking off with the sheet washing…y’all are puttin’ me to shame. :) Thanks for commenting!

  6. You are welcome, Holly! Where is “town” for you?

I love luxurious sheets..I make sure that I buy the best that I can afford and I change them weekly like clockwork….Love soft luxurious towels and I change then out every other day..Love them to be really fresh, but feel like I am being wasteful if I just use a towel once.

  8. Do you have a place where you like to buy your sheets? I love soft sheets… I can relate to feeling wasteful by using a towel once and then starting over with a fresh one…we now go a bit longer in between changing out our towels.

  9. We seem to have a ton of towels but only ONE set of sheets for our bed! I know, I’m bad. I wash them about every other week. :)

  10. You’ve made me feel a little better about my sheet situation. I only have two, but I don’t like the 2nd one as well…not as soft, so I really only use one set. I was thinking every other week was a good thing…so far everyone who has commented changes out their sheets every week. All this laundry talk has me wanting to get on my laundry room makeover…maybe then I would be more inclined to wash sheets and towels more often…;)

  11. You’re too funny! I think I have too many of both!

  12. I’m glad I could make you laugh. I don’t know if you have seen my fb page, but I gave a little update to say that I decided the onion-y smell was me; not the sheets…but that doesn’t change the fact that I need to wash my sheets.

  13. Sharon, I think I am overly blessed with sheets and towels. One of the few things for which I am overqualified.
    Hugs, Ginger

  14. We have 3 sets of sheets for our bed and at least 8 other sets because our spare bed gets used frequently with overnight guests…then sometimes the pullout couch, or the single pull out, or 1, 2 and there’s even been 3 blow up beds along with our own in our bedroom!…usually busier washing sheets in summertime. That’s what happens when you live on the River in the Country with a dock…too far for people to drive home if they’ve had a couple drinks! And, towels run rampant here as well…for guests and pool users! I only wish that rule you talked about applied to our household! hahahaha! Guests also include grown up children that come home some weekends to visit. xo wendy

  15. Your house sounds like The Place to be! I love outdoor fun! So how warm do your summer’s get?

  16. Ginger, love the idea of being overly blessed! I have no doubt that you are a highly qualified lady in many ways!!
