magazine copycat challenge

My inspiration comes from a Southern Living idea home.  I first saw this photo online about four years ago.

I was struck by the similarities between this space and my command center.

The only purchase I made was two square frames from Hobby Lobby…and that was several years ago.

So, this copycat has not cost me a single cent…yet.  ;)

The green and white color scheme is what I love most about this space.  I haven’t done any painting as of yet.  So, my after is really a “between”.

But I had a lot of fun shopping my house to recreate the look of the desk area.

The door in the inspiration photo leads to a garage.  My door leads to the laundry room.

The wall opposite the desk in the inspiration photo is a pet area complete with hooks, cubbies and pet food.

I use that wall in my space as a mudroom/wall with hooks and a bench.

I’m really excited about this project.

Let me show you what it looks like right now…in the between stage.

I plan to paint the walls first and then make a decision about the cabinets.  I know white cabinets are all the rage, but I have to keep in mind that this area is open to my kitchen with the same wood cabinets.  One thought is to paint the island and these cabinets to match.  We’ll see.

I also need to create a permanent slip cover for the desk chair.  For today’s purposes, I shopped my fabric collection and found two green pillow cases that were just slipped over the chair and tucked and pinned here and there.  I felt like a real designer getting ready for  a magazine shoot; under the gun and pulling out my last minute tricks to make it happen.  ;)

I hope to finish this area soon.  I’ll be sure to show you the reveal!

Here’s a few more photos in the meantime

Until next time,

Sharon

  13. This is the second project that the magazine copycat challenge has pushed me to get done. On both this desk space and the buffet vignette with the diy chalkboard…I had gotten started years ago and then stalled. Now I love my buffet and I know I’m going to love this desk nook. Thanks for motivating me!
