housekeeping tips

vacuum, clean, homemaking, chores, household

~Did you know that you should vacuum a day per family member including pets?  So, I should be vacuuming 4 times a week since I have a family of three and a cat.  Oops!  Guess I’m a little behind.  ;)

To clean the build-up inside your microwave, bring a bowl of water to a boil and then let it sit for a while.  This will loosen the dried food, etc.  Remove the bowl, and use a damp rag to wipe clean the microwave. For added freshness, you can add a little splash of lemon to the water before you boil it.  (tested and approved by mrs. hines)

~Use your computer to create laundry how-to cheat sheets, and hang them above the washing machine.  Now there are no more excuses to keep your family from helping.

Do you have any cleaning tips?

  3. Hey there, UJ! I had a fabulous and wonderful birthday. Thank you! We’d love to come see you again; hopefully sooner than later. ;)

  4. Never knew the rule of thumb on the vacuuming…so that means I am vacuuming too much!!…:)…need to cut back!…:)

  5. Haha!! Take the day off today, Shirley…you deserve it!

  6. It really does work, Kari! That steam loosens up everything and makes it so easy to wipe it out.

  7. I’d like to have all wood floors and not vacuum at all!

  8. Sharon, I have all hardwood floors but I vacuum anyway. I use a small stick vacuum to clear dust bunnies that are more noticable with hardwoods. I do that once a week, should do it more often but once is the best I can do. Hardwoods are beautiful but you see everything.
I have been using the cup of water tip for a while. The tip was in the reading material of my first microwave. It works like a charm.
    Thanks for the tips.
    Have a great week.
    Hugs, Ginger

  9. Ginger, if you’re vacuuming once a week, you’re doing waaaay better than me. I learned that tip when we bought our house….it was recommended by the carpet manufacturer. I’m not sure about wood. And that water trick definitely works like a charm. I love it when a tip actually works! Hugs right back at ya!

  10. Haha, loved your post!

  13. I’m seriously behind in the vacuum department too! I love cleaning my microwave this way….it really works.

  14. Sharon, evn with wood floors you have to vacuum. I am SO lucky to have central vac. It is much nicer and easier!

  15. I guess I need to vauum twice a week. I never knew that. Thanks!!!

  16. We learned this tip during our walk through of this house 5 years ago. I’ve had a terrible track record.

  17. I was afraid of that, Pinky. I guess when I finally get wood floors, they’ll be pretty dusty. ;)
