Our first home had nothing on the walls, largely because the budget didn’t allow for it.   I have since learned that art doesn’t have to break the bank.  Today, I’ll share some tips I’ve learned along the way for creating DIY art at little or no cost.

photography, family photos, pictures, frames, gallery wall, art, DIY, home decor

~Get the Pottery Barn look by taking photographs of everyday images and include them in a gallery wall with framed family pictures.

~Take advantage of free online resources such as The Graphics Fairy and Wordle.net

children's art, decorate, home decor, art, frame, display frames, DIY

~Frame your child’s drawings or art projects for instant art.

~Do you have a map that you’re not using anymore?  Cut it up and display it as a collage.

pallet, faux finish, driftwood, mantel, home decor, art, wall decor, DIY

~Repurpose a pallet and display above the mantel, create wall shelves or consider the endless possibilities.

DIY, chalkboard, home decor, art, wall decor

~Create your own chalkboard for functional art.

online classifieds, art, framed print, autumn, wall decor, home decor, hunting scene

~Shop online classifieds for bargains.  This beautiful autumn setting was mine for just $3

~Use objects such as plates or baskets to fill in blank wall space.

repurpose, art, home decor, decorate, wall decor, DIY, frame

~Salvage an unused frame or picture and repurpose it.

After 17 years in an elementary classroom, Mrs. Hines retired from teaching to pursue her passions: decorating, writing and homemaking. While her formal education is in teaching, she discovered her talent for design at a young age and is a self-taught decorator. Mrs. Hines' DIY spirit has earned her appearances on the show Deals which airs on the Live Well Network. She continues to teach and inspire on her popular Lifestyle blog, Mrs. Hines' Class. Homemaking is Mrs. Hines' first love. So, when she isn't decorating or writing, you can find her at home watching television with Mr. Hines or trying to keep up with her teenaged daughter.
