Cozy Cottage Foyer

I love hospitality.   Welcoming a familiar face, asking them to “come on in”, taking their coat, and inviting them to sit down is one of life’s simple pleasures.

My goal is to make each and every friend and family member feel special once they walk through the front door.  And for me, it starts in the foyer.  So, I’ve been looking for inspiration on Pinterest and in magazines, in hopes of creating a cozy, cottage foyer.

Some of the foyers that “had me at hello” were ones with warm, wood tones, and a casual air about them, like this one from House Beautiful.

I love those honey tones!  They’re so warm and cozy.  I was pleased as punch when I realized that the walls in my own foyer are a similar warm white, and I happened to already have a wood table sitting in the entry, although mine has a darker stain.  I just needed some honey to create the warm, inviting look I was after.

So, I went searching for some honey, honey colored frames that is.    I felt like Winnie the Pooh when I saw these golden, pine frames at Target.  “Mmmmm, honey!”

I couldn’t wait to get home and frame the images I found on The Graphics Fairy.  These images are a great way to share a bit about me with friends, new and old, when they come over.  I love landscapes and architecture.  And sailboats capture my imagination, carrying me away to blue skies, warm breezes and sunshine; my idea of paradise.

Now the foyer has the warm, cozy glow I was wanting.

How are you keeping cozy this winter?

See you in class,

  1. Nice job! That inspiration photo with the fishing baskets is one of my all time favourites!

    Happy Monday!

  2. Great pictures and I agree, a foyer sets the stage in welcoming people into the home.

  3. Sharon, I believe you succeeded in obtaining your goal of a nice, warm, and welcoming foyer. Plus the fact that you are greeting your guests at the door, adds to a warm, friendly invitation to come in. That is one more thing I don’t like about my house – no real foyer to welcome people – oh well, I can’t have everything, or else I woudn’t appreciate the little things I do have.

  4. Thank you, Anne. I could stare at the inspiration foyer all day. And I agree, the baskets are a really nice touch. Maybe I can find some kind of basket to hang on my coat rack…

  5. Thank you, Cynthia. I was actually getting frustrated during the editing of the pictures, so I’m really glad to get another opinion. I’m very encouraged by your words.

  6. Terri, I so appreciate your encouragement. I bet if you send me pictures, we can come up with a way to create the feel of a foyer in your home.

  7. It looks very welcoming! I love your take on the look. I so need to print some images from the Graphics Fairy and do this.

  8. lovely foyer my friend. Love your inspiration too xo

  9. Sherry, Graphics Fairy has so many images to choose from. I always end up spending hours on her site.

  10. I’d love to see the rest of the house from that inspiration photo.
