I meant to take time to read during the day yesterday, but it just didn’t happen.
After everyone went to bed, the house was quiet and the living room was lit by the warm glow of the fireplace. It seemed like the perfect time to read.
Just a few chapters, I told myself. Sixteen chapters and several hours later, I finally made my way to bed.
The book I’m reading is called, “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty. I was supposed to read it last month for the book club I belong to… So, I’m trying to play catch up so that I can move on to this month’s selection, “Six Years.”
It feels so good to steal away from the usual routine and make time for leisure. As a girl, I used to spend hours reading Donna Parker and Nancy Drew. As I got older, reading for pleasure fell by the wayside.
Adulthood brought responsibilities and stress. At one point I became a slave to my to-do lists. I have to admit, it feels so good to get things done, but sometimes the thing that needs to get done is to relax. I’ve heard so many people, especially women say that they didn’t get anything done or that their day was wasted.
But, if we don’t take time for friends, family and favorite pastimes, we’re missing out. So, I want to encourage all of you, and myself, to not get so caught up in to-do lists that we forget to take time to stop and smell the roses.
