Who knew that the very dresser from which I fetched a pair of panties for Nonna would end up in my home one day?
I couldn’t have predicted the future of that dresser, serving as a buffet in my home, housing silverware and tablecloths and serving dishes.
I never imagined, as I stood at Mom’s dresser waving her topaz ring around on my hand, pretending to be at a cocktail party, that I would decide to repurpose that dresser as a media console.
The drawers that once kept socks and sweats and pajamas and, well, panties, now holds Willie Nelson CD’s and 12 seasons of the original Dallas.
This dresser, turned buffet, now media console may not take me to a magical land where lions talk, but it does take me back to my Mom’s bedroom where I watched her as she sat in front of her magnifying vanity mirror atop the dresser, putting on mascara.
Even with new knobs and a more modern look, this media console will always be my Mom’s dresser.
See you in class,
