My daughter had just gone to bed after getting her things ready for school when I read “get PE clothes” scribbled across her bathroom mirror.
A slow smile spread across my face, one of pride yet conflicting emotions over the end of the Christmas break. It was two relaxing weeks and one extraordinary girls’ day filled with taxi rides, shopping and spending gift cards and 2 dollar bills everywhere we went.
A couple of weeks ago a friend left an envelope on our front porch addressed to Mr. Hines. Inside the envelope was a note that read,
“Matt, you are one of those guys who is rare and one of a kind, kind of like a 2 dollar bill. Happy Birthday!”
The envelope was filled with a bunch of….2 dollar bills. Every time I spent one of those crisp bills yesterday, I thought of our friend, and his message of the rare and one of kind.
After reflecting on that story and spending all day yesterday with Hannah, I was reminded of what is truly important in this life. I don’t want to miss out on those rare, one of a kind moments that make an ordinary day extraordinary.
See you in class,
