The house is quiet, except for the clanging of dishes as my daughter finishes her nightly chore.
Mr. Hines is studying and Nicholas Sparks’ “The Longest Ride” is laying next to me. I started it on Father’s Day while at the beach; my favorite place to read, and be. Anyone have a beach house I can crash?
I’ve managed to read one or two more chapters since then, but my makeshift bookmark has been tucked in between pages ninety and ninety-one for days now. I plan to change that this evening.
While I read on to learn what happens to Ira, Sophia and Luke, I have some Recommended Reading for you this week.
I was struck by the wisdom of Miss Mustard Seed’s latest post on “A Fresh Way to Organize”. I bet I’ve got a good ten years or more on her, and it’s only been recently that I’ve started sorting my things into “get rid of” or “love”. I’m glad she’s learned this lesson early on.
And of course, seeing the beautiful photos of what is in her “love” pile was a bonus.
During one of them, I stumbled across some of my old Donna Parker books from childhood. I remember sitting on my bed, using context clues to figure out the meaning of new vocabulary, reading and rereading detailed descriptions of what Donna was wearing, and diving into each adventure as though I were there.
I’m a big fan of decorating with books and The Budget Decorator shared some pretty ideas with even prettier photos on decorating with books. Makes me want to go set a stack of books somewhere, right now…
Okay, I’m back. ( Seriously. )
The room where I found my old books is a big mess. It has become the dumping ground as we work on my daughter’s bedroom makeover. But, I’m taking my cues from Patricia from Little Cottage on the Pond, and am trying very hard to live in the now and appreciate the process.
Even today as I had things on my to-do list, I made sure to pause throughout the day and enjoy the slowness of long summer days.
One of my favorite ways to pause is with a good laugh, and I literally LOLed when I watched this video!
I watched it right on the heals of another video of a sweet dog reacting to her owner coming home after being away for 6 months. So, if you’re a cat owner, you can appreciate the humor.
Okay y’all, I’m going to get back to my book. Enjoy this week’s Recommended Reading!
p.s. If you have any summer reading suggestions, leave them in the comments.
See you in class,
