Last Sunday, as we as we gathered materials for the potting bench, I told Mr. Hines that I thought working on projects together was the best kind of date. To which he jokingly replied, “It’s the worst kind of date for me.” He’s a dinner and movie kind of guy.
All joking aside, he gave up a rare day off to help me. And, when the potting bench was finished, he felt a great sense of pride and accomplishment which, and I think Mr. Hines would agree, was worth the “worst kind of date.”
Having that project scratched off of the to-list has motivated me to keep working on turning our backyard into an outdoor oasis.
I know I want a circle of chairs around a fire pit and a water fountain, but beyond that I’m uncertain. I’ll keep searching for inspiration, and in the meantime, how about a little Recommended Reading?
This week’s reading is filled with drool-worthy design and a little food for thought, too.
– When I saw Thistlewood’s Faux Painted Floor Runner, I oohed and aahed over the black and white harlequin pattern.
-When I saw this quote on Patricia’s ( blogger at Little Cottage on the Pond) Facebook feed, it really resonated with me…especially the first paragraph, because that is exactly how I feel every time I get to travel to another time, or culture through literature.
I’ll see you in class,
