I love collecting tips: cleaning tips, organizing tips, fashion tips, beauty tips…all the tips.
So, I’m starting a new weekly series called “Quick Tip of the Week” where I will share my favorite tips.
First up in the series is a beauty tip.
I recently learned that paraben, which is a preservative found in a lot of beauty products, can be disruptive to hormones and the endocrine system. Considering my age and the fact that I have hypothyroidism, I’m trying to do everything I can to create hormonal balance.
My first line of defense has been reducing the parabens that enter my body through cosmetics and skin products by using coconut oil as body lotion, and gradually switching over to paraben free make-up.
I also started using the oiling method for cleaning my face. It leaves my face feeling so soft, smooth and clean afterwards that I wanted to share this method with you.
Oil Cleansing Method
Hexane free Castor Oil
Carrier oil such as Sunflower Seed Oil or Olive Oil (I use Jojoba Oil)
Small bottle (I use a plastic, travel-size bottle )
Oily Skin – mix 2 parts Castor Oil to 1 part Carrier Oil
Dry Skin – mix 1 part Castor Oil with 1 part Carrier Oil
Normal Skin – mix 1 part Castor Oil with 2 parts Carrier Oil
– Apply a small amount of the oil mixture in your hand and massage onto your face.
– Wet washcloth with hot water and hold over face for a minute.
– Rinse washcloth and wipe face clean.
– Repeat until face no longer feels oily.
The Castor Oil acts as a cleanser while the Carrier Oil moisturizes your skin.
I’ve been using this method for about a month now and not only does my skin feel softer, but it looks brighter, too. If you are looking for an all-natural and/or a paraben free option, I recommend trying the oil cleansing method.
