I never, ever thought I’d be one to hang plates on the wall.
I’ve found plenty of other uses for old dishes which I’m sharing at Sweet Tea & Saving Grace today, but to use them as art…
until one day um, see, what had happened was (who knows that reference?) I was looking for a way to add color and width to the art I’d hung above the loveseat, when I remembered the stack of plates sitting in my kitchen cabinet. And so began the great living room makeover of 2016.
The Color Palette
The blue and turquoise Fiestaware colors were perfect for the living room, so I grabbed several from the stack and started playing around with arrangements. Ultimately, I settled on a very traditional, very symmetrical, very simple arrangement because that’s my style.
I loved how the plates picked up the blue accent wall, and the blue and white lamp, but the room needed more blue which happens to be my favorite color.
Enter the blue plaid blanket and the rug.
Now that the room was anchored, it was time to add a few essential accessories.
I lucked out when I found the barley twist floor lamp which I think it pairs really well with my vintage suitcase side table.
The white fur throw breaks up all that brown from the leather sofa.
The tufted linen cocktail ottoman adds texture but is also a very practical addition to the room since we love to eat, drink and kick our feet up in this room.
Plants are a great way to add life to a room. The plants not only add life, but they add color and texture as well.
Photographs and a few sentimental items give the room a personal touch.
I’m still working on some finishing details, but I think I finally have the comfortable, inviting space I’ve been searching for.
If you’d like to watch behind the scenes to see how I warmed up the room for winter, you can view the video here.
