It’s when Summer settles in and the days grow long that the simple comforts of home take center stage; becoming the soundtrack and setting of our everyday lives.
Like the roar of the ocean or the splash of a pool followed by the feel of fresh, fluffy towels against your skin.
The anticipation of the next big holiday
and havin’ leftovers of your favorite Summer salad for lunch.
Sippin’ red wine as you rock into the night to the tune of croaking frogs and chirping crickets.
Staying up through the wee hours of the night finishing a book you just can’t put down.
The silence of a morning without alarm clocks.
Flags wavin’, firecrackers soaring, people waving.
Shrimp boils, margaritas, and late nights with friends.
Texas heat and air so thick with humidity you can barely breathe. (I wouldn’t have it any other way.)
Thunder rolling, rain pouring, steam rising, and the smell of wet dirt.
Puddle hoppin’, raindrop catchin’ and watching for lightnin’ bugs.
It may all sound sort of ordinary, but for me, this is the good stuff of Summer.
See you in class,
